Glasgow will be hosting the 20 th Commonwealth Games in 2014. Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and it has started making preparations for setting up and renovating stadiums for sports events and opening and closing ceremonies.
Commonwealth Games Federation selected Glasgow for the CWG 2014 in the year 2007 at Colombo in Sri Lanka.
Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014 will be conducted from 24th July to 3 August 2014 , which is 11 days of games events in Scotland in United Kingdom.
Manager of Glasgow Commonwealth Games Organising Committee , Ian Mckenzie is arranging the constructions of Venues and Games Village at Glasgow.
There will be lot of flats built in Glasgow for Games village accommodation. It will be able to house 6500 athletes with all international standard facilities for athletes and officials during Commonwealth Games. Among these flats 2/3 of them will be given for sale and rest of these flats will be given on the basis of social renting.
Opening ceremony of Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014 will be conducted at the venue Celtic Park in 24th July 2014.
Glasgow Closing Ceremony of the Twentieth CWG 2014 will be conducted in the Stadium Hampden Park.
Transportation to all Venues in Glasgow City will be made using railway and subway stations. All venues will be easy to travel with 20 minutes distance from Games village.
To improve the river transportation new bridges are being constructed in River Clyde. The construction of Games village at Glasgow willl be completed by January 2014.
Games stadiums and venues for Commonwealth games 2014 will be built around 3 areas in the Glasgow City. All the venues will be arranged in such a way that they are easy for Athletes to reach from the Games Village.
Commonwealth games was transferred from Delhi to Glasgow after theFlag Handover Ceremonyof Delhi CWG that took place in Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium in India.
Logo of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games has been approved and released. The logo of 20th CWG at Glasgow has lot of meanings.
The outer ring of the logo is red showing the True Red of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) palette. There will be 17 sports events in Glasgow Commonwealth Event and is shown by the color Triumph Yellow showing the number of sports items.
And the blue third ring in the logo , Heritage blue shows the 11 days of competition that takes place at CWG 2014. In the center of the logo there is a letter "G" in vibrant green representing the host city Glasgow. It also means Dear Green Place in Gaelic.
